At MaineBound Designs, every product we create is rooted in a genuine love of Maine — its rugged coastlines, pine-scented forests, working waterfronts, cozy cabins, and the kind of quiet beauty that makes people fall in love with this state for life.
We want to be completely open with you about how our designs are made. We are a small, independent business, and like many modern creative studios, we use a combination of traditional design techniques and cutting-edge AI-assisted image generation tools as part of our creative workflow.

What AI-Assisted Design Means at MaineBound Designs

| 5 | Product Adaptation — The final design is then adapted and optimized for each specific product format — whether that is a 12×16 canvas print, a wraparound mug, a full-coverage blanket, or a t-shirt chest print. |
| 6 | Final Review — Every design is reviewed by a human eye for quality, brand consistency, and our personal standard of “Does this actually feel like Maine?” before it ever reaches a product listing. |

The AI generates visual options based on our detailed direction, and we then curate, refine, and complete the design using our own aesthetic judgment. The final product is an original design that would not exist without our specific creative input. AI is the instrument; we are the composer. |
Concern: “Does using AI mean you are being unfair to human artists?” Our answer: This is a fair and important question that the creative industry is actively working through. We take it seriously. We use AI tools from platforms that are developing ethical usage frameworks and artist compensation models. We also consciously use AI as a starting point, not an endpoint — the refinement, adaptation, and finalization of every design involves significant human skill and time. We also actively collaborate with Maine-based artists and photographers on select collections and will always be transparent about those partnerships. We are committed to staying informed on best practices as this space evolves. |
Concern: “Does the use of AI mean the designs lack heart or authenticity?” Our answer: We understand why this concern exists — and it is the one we feel most personally. The honest answer is that no AI tool has ever been to Pemaquid Point at sunrise, driven Route 1 in October, or eaten a lobster roll on a dock in Stonington. We have. The love of Maine in our designs is entirely real, and it cannot be generated by a machine. AI helps us translate that love into visual form with greater speed and variety. The authenticity of what Maine means to us is baked into every prompt we write, every output we select, and every refinement we make. We would not put a MaineBound Designs label on anything we did not genuinely love. |
